A blastocyst can be transferred fresh (in the same menstrual cycle in which it was created), or it can be frozen for future use. If you are doing preimplantation genetic testing (aka embryo biopsy), it will be done at this time prior to freezing. WebAlthough much less common, egg freezing may also be used for couples who have a fertility problem, such as low sperm count or unexplained fertility. It’s more usual for couples to have fertility treatment first then freeze the resulting embryo – because embryos are more robust than eggs when it comes to freezing and thawing.
